| Maps:
You can get a map
to the Sons of Hermann Hall and driving directions from
MapQuest
or
Google Maps or other internet map services. Set the destination address to 3414
Elm Street, Dallas, TX 75226-1720 or to the intersection of
Elm and Exposition. Be sure to check text
directions against the map! The one way streets in the Deep Ellum
area are confusing
and some map programs will give you odd directions.
|
| PARKING:
There is a small parking lot directly across the street from the Sons of
Hermann Hall. This lot does not
belong to the Sons of Hermann Hall and there will be a parking fee on some
nights. You can park free on the un-metered portion of Elm
street near the Hall and on some of the surrounding streets. Check
the signs carefully!
MARCH 2008 UPDATE:
The Baylor Hospital Complex has kindly given permission for Sons of
Hermann Hall patrons to park in the Baylor lots on evenings (after 5:00
PM) and weekends. Free parking in Deep Ellum is scarce so please
help us by respecting reserved spaces, not blocking ramps and exits, and
by not leaving any trash or containers in the Baylor parking lots. |
| If you park in a metered space please
remember that meters must be paid up to
midnight SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. Unlike other areas, you
must pay the meter every day of the week in the Deep Ellum district.
Parking laws in Deep Ellum are strictly enforced.
A few quarters are a lot cheaper than a parking ticket. |
| PLEASE check the
signs carefully and park in
reserved spaces or in the lots belonging to any any local business with
"no parking" signs. (For example, Brake & Clutch
across Exposition from the Hall.) Be sure not to park in any space
marked "Reserved for Baylor Police."
(Don't laugh - people do this!) If you park illegally your car will
be towed very quickly which will ruin an otherwise great
evening.
Trust us: your car might be on a tow truck before the front
door closes behind you. We have seen it happen! Towing
companies in Deep Ellum are fast, ruthless, and expensive. Please
don't take a chance. Most nights there is more than enough parking
within a short walk of the front door. If you are unsure, please ask
at the downstairs bar.
Our side of Deep Ellum is a bit more peaceful than others but
if you are at all concerned about walking to your car after a show please
ask one of the Hall's member volunteers at the downstairs bar.
We will be glad to escort you to a nearby vehicle.

| DO
NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! |
| Texas leads the nation in
alcohol-related traffic fatalities. Alcohol-related arrests in Texas
exceed 90,000 annually. Nearly half of all fatal traffic accidents
involve an alcohol-impaired driver. On average, four people are
killed in drunk driving accidents every day in Texas. We do not want
you to be one of them!
If there is even a chance you have too much please
do not take the risk! Dallas Police heavily patrol the
Deep Ellum district and DUI arrests are frequent. The legal limit is
.08 BAC and two beers are enough to put many people over the limit. Please
drink responsibly! We stock a variety of non-alcoholic
beverages and a designated driver is always the best idea.
As of this writing, a first offense DUI conviction in Texas carries a fine up to
$2,000, from 3 to 120 days in jail, and a license suspension from 90 days
to 1 year. A second offense is at least 30 days in jail, a
suspended license for at least 6 months, and up to a $4,000 fine. A
third offence requires at least two years in prison!
Add to these legal fees, which are often higher than the fines.
A DUI arrest will be very expensive and conviction includes mandatory
jail time. It's not worth the risk!
Texas has a zero tolerance policy for DUI so
please do not take a chance! Drink responsibly,
designate a non-drinking driver, or take a cab home.
Going to jail (or worse) is a terrible way to end your evening
and, at the very least, a DUI arrest is embarrassing and expensive. Very
expensive. We want you to get home safely so please ask and we
will be happy to help arrange safe transportation.
We love having you visit the Sons of Hermann Hall and want to
have you back again soon!
